Co-Founding Partner, Leonard M. Cascone, is an accomplished trial attorney who concentrates in the areas of liability defense and has extensive experience with construction accidents involving New York’s Labor Law, wrongful death claims, harassment and discrimination claims, products liability and high-exposure motor vehicle/trucking accidents. He is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Mr. Cascone lectures on Labor Law, liquor liability, automobile liability and premises liability for the New York State Bar Association. He has also lectured at the annual convention of the Buffalo Claims Association. Mr. Cascone is a member of the New York State, Nassau County and Suffolk County Bar Associations as well as the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Cascone is a member of the Defense Research Institute.

Mr. Cascone received his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University in 1991 where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 average and was Valedictorian of his class. Mr. Cascone earned his Juris Doctorate degree from St. John’s School of Law in 1994.

Leonard is an active member of his church and, through the church ministries, teaches religious instruction to children and Pre-Cana marriage counseling to engaged couples.

Co-Founding Partner, David F. Kluepfel, is the Managing Partner of the firm. He is a seasoned trial attorney who specializes in the defense of high-exposure personal injury actions involving construction accidents, insurance coverage and indemnification issues, municipal liability, premises and automobile liability.  Mr. Kluepfel is admitted to practice law in New York and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Mr. Kluepfel has conducted numerous client seminars on such topics as New York’s Labor Law, negligence defense and insurance law. He most recently wrote and lectured for the New York State Bar Association on “Handling an Auto Accident – the Defendant’s Perspective.”  He has served as an Education Day Speaker for the Buffalo Claims Association on the topic of “Defending the Provider of Alcohol.” He is a member of the New York State, Nassau County and Suffolk County Bar Associations as well as the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Kluepfel is an appointed member of the Insurance and Negligence Defense Counsel Subcommittee of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He is also a member of The Defense Association of New York, Inc. and the Defense Research Institute.

Mr. Kluepfel graduated from Ithaca College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Mr. Kluepfel earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1995.

David is the Village Justice for the Village of Brightwaters. He serves on the Coach’s Advisory Committee of the Bay Shore Youth Football League, where he is the Head Coach of the 9 year-old P.A.L travel team.   He also acts as a Judge at the Nassau County Bar Association’s Annual High School Moot Court Competition.  David resides in Brightwaters, NY with his wife and three children.


Olympia Rubino

Ms. Rubino has substantial experience defending all types of negligence and liability claims, including premises liability, municipal liability, construction accidents, elevator accidents, medical malpractice and motor vehicle accidents. She also handles insurance coverage disputes and regularly defends and prosecutes declaratory judgment actions. Ms. Rubino has an impressive track record in all stages of litigation, including trials and appeals.

As a testament to her skill in the field of trial advocacy, Ms. Rubino has given numerous lectures and demonstrations to law students at Hofstra University School of Law for the Advanced Trial Advocacy course. She is also a member of the New York State Bar Association.    

Ms. Rubino graduated from Hofstra University in 1996 with a Bachelors of Art in both English and Philosophy in only three years. She earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1999 with honors. She is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts.

Olympia is a class mom for both of her daughters; is active in her church; enjoys playing the piano and going to the opera; and speaks Greek.

Mr. Lauri has a broad range of experience and has litigated and tried complex tort and commercial matters in the state and federal courts of New York.  He specializes in construction/Labor Law, construction defect, insurance coverage, products liability, toxic torts, premises liability, property damage/subrogation and commercial litigation.  He has served as an Education Day Speaker for the Buffalo Claims Association on the topic of “Defending a Claim for Lost Wages Made by an Undocumented Alien who is Not Authorized to Work in the United States.” 

In law school, Mr. Lauri was a Notes and Comments Editor for the St. John’s Journal of Legal Commentary where he co-authored a note entitled, “Like Father Like Son?  The Constitutionality of New York’s New Son of Sam Law.”  He also served as the President of the Environmental and Energy Law Club and was the recipient of two American Jurisprudence Awards.

Mr. Lauri earned his B.A. at Hofstra University in 1989.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s School of Law in 1994.  Mr. Lauri is admitted to practice in the state courts of New York and the United States District Court, for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.  He is a member of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations. 

Andrew is a trustee of the Commack United Methodist Church, established in 1789, and teaches Sunday school.  He is a parent volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 125 Commack and also serves as the charter organization representative from the Commack United Methodist Church.  Andrew was a member and officer of the Commack Volunteer Fire Department and coached local soccer and Little League teams.  Andrew was born and raised in Commack, New York, where he resides with his wife and son.

Ms. von Arx came to Cascone & Kluepfel, LLP in 2007 with diverse experience in the areas of insurance defense, insurance coverage disputes, and estate proceedings.  Since that time, Ms. von Arx has concentrated on multi-party litigation with an emphasis on Labor Law claims and snow removal contractors’ liability defense. 

Ms. von Arx is a 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, where she was Articles Editor of Margins: Maryland's Law Journal on Race, Religion, Gender & Class. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. von Arx was awarded The Public Service Award for engaging in service and legal work that significantly advanced the public interest. Ms. von Arx is admitted to practice in New York, and the United States District Court, for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Kim lives in Rockville Centre with her husband and daughter, Lindsey.  She serves as a Career Day mentor and Industry Partner for Deer Park High School, her alma mater.  Kim also plays on a beach volleyball team in Long Beach, New York.

Mr. Altman is a motion and appellate specialist with extensive experience defending municipalities, contractors and owners against premises liability, construction defect liability, and Labor Law actions.   Mr. Altman is admitted to practice law in New York, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Prior to joining Cascone & Kluepfel, Mr. Altman worked for over ten years as an insurance coverage/appellate attorney for a Wall Street litigation firm, representing commercial insurance carriers, utility companies, and many of New York’s well-known general contractors in personal injury and declaratory judgment actions.

Mr. Altman is a 2001 graduate of Hofstra University School of Law, where he served as Associate Editor of the Hofstra Labor & Employment Law Journal.

Mr. Altman lives locally in Massapequa, New York, and enjoys cooking and baking, hiking, playing the piano, and writing.

Mr. Bhavnani comes to Cascone & Kluepfel with experience in many areas of personal injury defense. He regularly handles cases involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability and construction-site accidents. He also prosecutes and defends declaratory judgment actions.

Mr. Bhavnani received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in 1997, where he was on the Dean’s List.  In 2000, he received his Juris Doctorate from DePaul University, College of Law, where he earned a CALI award for academic excellence.

Ajay enjoys playing poker, playing tennis and traveling.

Mr. Brandwein has over 17 years of experience in the area of insurance defense practice.  He honed his litigation and trial skills as a senior/managing counsel for both The Travelers Insurance Company and Tri-State Consumer Insurance Company.  He is an experienced trial attorney who concentrates his practice in all areas of liability defense, including automobile accidents, construction accidents, premises cases, elevator claims and insurance coverage litigation.   Mr. Brandwein is also highly experienced and proficient in the areas of no-fault, property damage, subrogation and UM/SUM claims. Mr. Brandwein has an impressive track record in all stages of litigation, including motions, trials, arbitrations and appellate practice.

Mr. Brandwein is admitted to practice law in New York State and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.  He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1990 with a major in legal studies and a minor in history.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School in 1993.

Mr. Brandwein is a member of the New York State Bar Association and New York State Trial Lawyers Association. 

Howard resides in Plainview, NY with his wife and two boys, ages 12 and 14.  He is active in his boys’ recreational and scholastic sporting activities.  For the past eight years he has been either a coach or manager for their Little League intramural and travel baseball teams.

A recent addition to the firm, Mr. Calabrese joins us with significant litigation defense experience in a diverse range of practice areas including premises liability, product liability, motor vehicle accidents and construction accidents.

Mr. Calabrese is admitted to practice law New York State and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2004 with Bachelor of Science in business management and a minor in legal studies.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law School. Mr. Calabrese studied international business law in Moscow, Russia.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association. 

Rich resides in Bellmore, New York, by way of Brooklyn, with his wife Loraine, and their dog, Bali. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing and Sunday dinners with family.

Ms. Melville concentrates her practice on defending clients in personal injury actions arising out of motor vehicle, premises and construction site accidents.

Ms. Melville earned her undergraduate degree from Temple University and then continued her studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) School of Law. While pursuing her Juris Doctorate degree, Ms. Melville served as an Associate Notes Editor for the UALR Law Review and held leadership positions in various organizations. Ms. Melville graduated with honorsand served as an Honor Marshall for the 2012 commencement ceremony. Ms. Melville is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey.   

Ms. Melville lives in Elmont, New York. She enjoys spending time with her husband and is very active in her church where she serves as a Youth Leader.

Mr. Pagliuca has extensive experience in the field of insurance/negligence defense.  He specializes in cases involving high exposure motor vehicle accidents, commercial and residential premises and construction accidents.  He also handles construction defect matters, as well as UM/SUM claims and no-fault litigation.

Mr. Pagliuca is admitted to practice law in the state of New York.  Mr. Pagliuca received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from St. John’s University in 1991, and his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law in 1996.

Tony resides in Massapequa, with his wife and 18 month old son, along with their dog and cat.  He enjoys watching sports and hopes to pass on his love of the New York Yankees to his son.  Tony looks forward to many years of coaching Little League teams.

Joseph is from Ulster County, New York and frequently spends weekends there with his family.  He enjoys fishing, country music and the New York Jets.

Mr. Winterstein has a broad-based background in civil defense litigation, having represented clients in matters across the legal spectrum since his admission to the bar in 2006. Mr. Winterstein has significant experience in cases involving premises liability, liquor liability, automobile torts and subrogation.

Mr. Winterstein’s current practice largely consists of cases arising from motor vehicle accidents, construction site accidents, trip and fall accidents and dog bites, as well as breach of contract and property damage claims.  Mr. Winterstein is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, and also, in the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Mr. Winterstein earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Michigan in 2001, after only three years. Mr. Winterstein earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 2005.

Paul resides in Plainview, New York with his wife and two children.  He enjoys spending time with his family and watching University of Michigan sporting events.

Ms. Zouros comes to the firm with over 16 years of experience in personal injury defense. She has extensive experience in all aspects of liability defense, including commercial and residential premises liability, automobile litigation, construction accidents, products liability and pharmacy negligence actions. Ms. Zouros has represented numerous national retailers, property management companies, contractors, municipalities and self-insured clients.

Ms. Zouros is admitted to practice law in the state courts of New York and the United States District Court, for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Ms. Zouros earned her undergraduate degree from Hofstra University, graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1992. She earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1995.

Maria is a first-generation American and speaks fluent Greek.  She is active in her Church.  Since childhood, she has enjoyed helping at her family’s business, making homemade candies and chocolate.
