James K. O' Sullivan
About
Mr. O’Sullivan, the firm’s Appellate and Complex Motion Specialist, has argued hundreds of appeals before all appellate courts in the State, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, New York State Court of Appeals, and all four Departments of the Supreme Court, Appellate Division. His name appears on countless opinions as the attorney for the prevailing defendant in a wide range of significant cases concerning, among many other issues, New York’s Labor Law, the assumption of the risk doctrine, medical and legal malpractice, and complicated insurance coverage disputes.
Mr. O’Sullivan has conducted numerous Continuing Legal Education classes for New York defense attorneys, and authored or co-authored several articles for “The Defendant,” the Journal published by the Defense Association of New York (DANY). He also serves as the Editor of two continuously updated legal treatises: The New York Civil Motion Citator, and The New York Tort Citator. Previously, he was the managing attorney of a mid-sized Long Island defense firm before working in-house at a large multi-national insurance company where he served as its Appellate and Complex Motion Specialist for New York. Before obtaining his Juris Doctorate from New York Law School, he served in the U.S. Army as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the Mental health clinic of the 25th Infantry Division.
Jim lives on Long Island with his wife, the younger of his two daughters, his dog and three cats. In his spare time, he roots for the Mets, Jets and Islanders.
